The Last Litter Program

We all must do our best and work with the community to reduce pet overpopulation. With our Last Litter Program, we can offer spay surgeries for cats brought to us with adoptable litters.

Through the Last Litter Program, your mother cat will be spayed at no cost to you. The kittens will remain with Hidden Gem Cat Rescue to be examined by a veterinarian, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before being adopted by their new families. Assistance is dependent on available space and resources. Our staff must be able to determine that your cat is healthy enough to receive surgery, the kittens must be free of any contagious disease or illness, and they must be old enough to be separated from the mother cat.

Pregnant Cats?

Depending on resources we may be able to assist you with a pregnant mama kitty. If it is the early stages of pregnancy we do recommend spaying since there are so many kitties already waiting for homes in shelters and so many things could jeopardize mama's health with a pregnancy. If you want your mama kitty back after she has had her babies and raised them to proper weaning age we have a "Temporary Surrender Form" for these instances and can work with you.

Kittens no longer "Kittens"?

If your kittens are older, over 4 months old, we consider them adolescents. While they are still very much babies, they can have their own babies at this age believe it or not. It will be on a case-by-case basis if we can take them in. We can work with you to place them into homes and get them spayed and neutered if we do not have foster homes readily available.

Shy or "Feral" Kittens?

We do work with shy and "feral" kittens, under two months of age. We suggest kittens over four months of age be placed in barn homes or TNR'd (Trapped - Neutered - Released) as they may never adjust to an indoor environment.

Kittens Too Young?

If your litter of kittens is too young to be away from their mama but you can no longer care for them the most ideal is to keep them together and have you temporarily surrender their mama as well until the babies are big enough to be on their own. Another option would be to find another resource either with a last litter program or to fully surrender them if you can no longer care for them. We can point you in the right direction.

What about Dad?

We won't forget about him! If your father cat needs to be neutered please reach out to us, we can work with you to find resources in your area or if our resources allow it at the time we can try to squeeze him in with our rescues.

Sick Felines?

Depending on the case, we may be able to take an ill kitty or litter. We will need images and detailed descriptions of the problem before we determine if we can financially afford the case. If we cannot we will direct you to other resources.

How it Works

Options for your Momma Kitty!

We understand that getting your cat spayed can be a significant expense, which is why we offer two methods to help you get your Momma Kitty spayed at no cost through our last litter program.

Option 1:

Our first option is to provide you with a voucher for our Tacoma clinic. With this voucher, you can schedule an appointment at your convenience and handle all aspects of the appointment yourself. Our clinic in Tacoma is staffed by experienced veterinarians and support staff who will take great care of your pet. They will provide all the necessary treatment, including anesthesia, surgery, and recovery. You can rest assured that your Momma Kitty is in good hands.

Option 2:

Our second option is to schedule an appointment for your Momma Kitty at one of our other participating clinics. This option involves more coordination between us, but we can make it easier for you. We will work with you to find a time that suits your schedule and coordinate with the clinic to ensure that everything goes smoothly. If you can't make the 7am drop-off time, we can have your cat dropped off with us the night before. Our participating clinics are staffed by experienced veterinarians who will provide the same high-quality care as our Tacoma clinic.

We hope that these options will help you get your Momma Kitty spayed without any financial burden. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us Here.
